The 2024 USAOTP Conference in Austin, TX was amazing. The keynote by Dr. Neeraj Gandotra, MD, SAMHSA Chief Medical Officer was insightful and eye-opening. Dr. Neeraj Gandotra’s perspectives highlighted several key opportunities for improvement:

  1. Telehealth Integration: SAMHSA has implemented changes to facilitate the use of telehealth, which helps expand the geographic reach and patient access to OTPs.
  2. Regulatory Oversight: The oversight of OTPs has shifted from the FDA to SAMHSA, allowing for greater clinical judgment in treating opioid use disorder (OUD) and streamlining regulatory processes.
  3. Mobile Units: The new rules also support the use of mobile units, making it easier to deliver care to patients in remote or underserved areas.
  4. Trauma-Informed Care: Integrating trauma-informed principles and practices into OTPs is emphasized to create a supportive and healing environment for patients.

These efforts aim to improve access to treatment, enhance the quality of care, and support recovery for individuals.

The conference topics ranged from ethics to compassion fatigue. Networking with fellow OTPs and exhibitors was amazing!

Looking for to 2025 USAOTP Conference!
